How to Install and Run ScreenApp Chrome Extension

Prerequisites

Before starting, ensure you have:

• Chrome browser version 90+ (check: chrome://version)
• ScreenApp account (sign up free)
• Admin rights on your computer (for permissions)

Installation Steps

1. Install the Extension

1. Visit Chrome Web Store
2. Search for “ScreenApp Screen Recorder”
3. Click “Add to Chrome” → “Add extension”
4. Pin to toolbar: Click puzzle piece icon → Pin ScreenApp

2. Grant Permissions

When you first click the ScreenApp icon:

1. Screen capture: Click “Allow” (required for recording)
2. Microphone: Click “Allow” (required for audio)
3. Camera: Click “Allow” (optional for webcam)

3. Sign In

1. Click ScreenApp icon → “Sign In”
2. Enter your account credentials
3. Recordings will now sync to your dashboard

How to Record

Basic Recording

1. Click ScreenApp icon in Chrome toolbar
2. Select recording type:
   • Browser Tab (most common) - records current webpage
   • Application Window - records specific program
   • Entire Screen - records everything
3. Click “Share” in Chrome dialog
4. Check “Share tab audio” (for meetings/videos)
5. Recording starts after 3-second countdown

Stop Recording

1. Click ScreenApp icon
2. Click “Stop Recording”
3. Video saves automatically to your dashboard

Common Issues & Solutions

Extension Not Visible

Cause: Extension not pinned or disabled Fix:

1. Go to chrome://extensions/
2. Find ScreenApp → Toggle ON
3. Click puzzle piece → Pin ScreenApp

No Audio in Recording

Cause: “Share tab audio” not selected Fix:

1. When recording, select “Browser Tab” option
2. Check “Share tab audio” in Chrome dialog
3. Test microphone in chrome://settings/content/microphone

Permission Denied Error

Cause: Browser permissions blocked Fix:

1. Click lock icon in address bar
2. Set Camera/Microphone to “Allow”
3. Refresh page and try again

Poor Video Quality

Cause: Browser performance issues Fix:

• Close unnecessary tabs
• Update Chrome to latest version
• Use wired internet connection
• Clear browser cache

Recording Types

For Meetings (Zoom, Teams, Meet)

1. Join meeting in Chrome
2. Select “Browser Tab” recording
3. Check “Share tab audio”
4. Get automatic transcript in dashboard

For Tutorials/Demos

1. Open application to demonstrate
2. Select “Application Window” recording
3. Enable microphone for narration
4. Download MP4 when finished

For Lectures/Webinars

1. Use “Browser Tab” recording
2. Enable both tab audio and microphone
3. Access timestamped transcript in dashboard
